Kohler’s Gaseous-Fueled Mobile Generators Recognized with Award

Consulting-Specifying Engineer (CSE), a premier resource for professional engineers who design mechanical, electrical, electronic and related systems for commercial, industrial and institutional projects, recently designated Kohler Power Systems’ gaseous-fueled mobile generators one of the best new products of 2015. CSE recognized the liquid-propane gensets in the Emergency, On-Site, and Standby Power category within its 2015 Product of the Year program.

“We’re pleased that CSE readers selected our gaseous-fueled mobile generators as one of the best new products of 2015,” said Anne Feudner, product manager for Kohler Power Systems. “These mobile generators are connecting with end users because they run on environmentally-friendly fuels and can help reduce fuel costs by 15 to 20 percent, when compared to comparable diesel units.”

Kohler’s industry-leading gaseous mobile generator line is engineered to provide reliable power in any situation from disaster recovery and special events to serving as primary power at construction sites or backup power at water utilities, commercial retail and healthcare facilities. The line can easily switch between optional on-board LP fuel tanks and external LP liquid, LP gas or natural gas fuel sources. The on-board LP tanks are built for a 24-hour run time while connection to an external LP or natural gas supply offers extended usage. Optional add-ons like cam-locks and a voltage selector switch can also be integrated, based on a user’s specific needs.

EPA's Enforcement of Vapor-Control Regulations

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has begun rigorously enforcing and issuing fines to oilfield exploration and production companies that violate its New Source Performance Standard 40 CFR, Part 60, Subpart OOOO—known as the "Quad O" regulation. To control fugitive vapors at their tank batteries, and eliminate the risk of incurring costly fines, oilfield operators are turning to vapor-recovery units (VRUs).

Critical components of oilfield VRUs are the compressors that transport the vapors through the VRU and safely into the storage unit. For this task, Blackmer® recommends its NG Series Oil-Free Reciprocating Gas Compressors, which are leak-free, contain no yellow metals, can handle up to 8% hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and are field-proven to be reliable and long-lasting.

What Can You Do?

Talk to your preferred supplier of VRUs about how they can help mitigate your risk and ask by name for Blackmer Oil-Free Reciprocating Gas Compressors to be a crucial part of your VOC-emission control solution. You can learn more at Blackmer's Vapor Recovery resource center and see why Blackmer has earned the reputation as a dedicated supplier of the highest quality compressors for use with VRUs.

The Importance of Maintaining Your Generator's Fuel System

Many generator systems use diesel engines as the prime mover. Stored diesel fuel is susceptible to many forms of contamination and if left untreated over time it will degrade substantially. It is crucial to maintain and test stored diesel fuel frequently, especially on standby generator systems that are idle for long periods with little use.

Maintenance of a generator set’s starter battery is critical to ensuring sufficient ampere capacity to start the engine. As a precaution generator users routinely change out the batteries every 2 years.

Kohler Power Solutions Center

Kohler is pleased to announce the release of the new Power Solutions Center (PSC). The PSC has been developed with your input and your request for an improved sizing and specification tool. We have also incorporated additional tools to make the job of sizing and specifying a power system easier.

The PSC is Kohler’s all-new, user-friendly spec and sizing program. An innovation so advanced, it will change the way power systems are specified.
