Install & Operation
Your KOHLER® residential backup generator system can be sized and wired for your
home in one of two power distribution scenarios:
KOHLER automatic residential generator systems provide dependable protection during
unexpected power outages. KOHLER has produced home standby generators, residential
emergency generators, and back power devices since the 1920s. KOHLER generators
provide clean power for sensitive home electronics; fast power to get you up and
running; and reliable backup power to ensure your life goes on even when the utility
power doesn't.
Essential Loads Power Distribution
This power distribution scenario isolates and supplies electrical power only to
those essential devices that must function during a power interruption. Examples
of devices and appliances that may be considered essential are:
- Furnace
- Lighting
- Sump Pump
- Refrigerator/freezer
- Security system
KOHLER Residential Generator
When utility power is interrupted, the ATS signals the generator to start and then
quickly transfers the electrical loads from the failed utility to the generator.
When utility power is restored, the ATS transfers the electrical loads back to the
utility and shuts down the generator.
- Exercises the generator weekly to assure reliable operation.
- Commercial-grade transfer switch and solid-state circuitry
ensure long life and safe operation.
- UL listed and CSA certified.
These devices are wired through a secondary, or essential loads, distribution panel.
This allows a smaller generator to be used.
Whole House Power Distribution
This power distribution scenario enables the homeowner to power all devices within
the home with the generator, as if they were using normal utility power.
